Student A's vocabulary, word knowledge and oral language are very strong and he is interested in a range of activities such as computers, gardening, drawing and finding out facts, however he has difficulties with concentration across the board. His overall achievement level across all subjects is low. His teacher has commented that since the commencement of medication his concentration has improved a little bit.

What does his lack of concentration look like?
- He uses a number of avoidance tactics eg. moving around the classroom, sitting at his desk with his book open but not doing the work, offering to do 'helpful' jobs for the teacher or others, or needing to go to the toilet.
- Getting upset/angry when he gets confused at the work he has been asked to do.
- Disrupting other students by talking to them bout non relevant topics.
What does his lack of concentration sound like?
- Engaging the teacher in non-relevant conversations
- Loud vocalising that he is unable to do the work
- Loud vocalising that he does not like the subject
- Making 'silly' comments to disrupt the class
