Making friends is difficult for some children at the best of times. Student A finds it difficult to interact appropriately with his peers and often displays inappropriate behavior when trying the make friends with someone eg. tipping grass all over one of his classmates who he was trying to interact with, saying things to people that he thinks will shock them so that he can generate more conversation.
Student A has difficulty making and maintaining relationships with his peers and his teacher has observed inappropriate social behavior eg. when he was trying to initiate an interaction with one of his classmates he was overly physical (bumping into him) and then dumped a handful of bark (from the garden) onto his head. In my interactions with him I have noticed an inability to recognize personal space.
Student A has made comments to new people in the classroom that we believe has been said to shock them into either leaving him alone or initiating further conversation. His difficulty in appropriate communication skills also makes it difficult for him to process and understand emotions and has led to 'melt downs', where he will become extremely emotional and can display physical aggression. He teacher has commented that when he starts to calm down he will often 'hide' (under a desk) or leave the room. She has recognized that he becomes 'embarrassed' or unable to understand this behavior.
